My travels have slowed down a lot over the past few years, which has meant that I haven’t had as much to write about here. And while I’ve been happy to travel a bit less, I have missed the blogging part of travel blogging. And so I started to wonder if there’s any other kind of blogging I could do as well.
I didn’t wonder for long, because ever since I moved to Norway I’ve thought that someday I might like to start a Norwegian food blog.
And you guys, someday is today. Or actually someday was a couple of weeks ago, when I published my first post on Norwegian Cookbook.
I was lucky to grow up with a (Norwegian) mother who cooked dinner every night and still is the best cook I know. And because of that, I never really had to learn to cook, but instead I just sort of picked it up from her. And that’s been really helpful, especially as I don’t love eating out at restaurants and usually prefer to make food at home.
However it also means that I never use recipes, unless I’m baking. But I think that has limited my cooking quite a bit, so I thought now it would be fun to work my way through one of Norway’s holy grail cookbooks, Den Rutete Kokeboken. And then I can share a translation of the recipe on Norwegian Cookbook, along with my own tweaks and suggestions.
And no I’m not abandoning Heart My Backpack, I just thought it would be fun to have a new project to work on.
Oh and I moved to Bergen!
And what better way to spend my time in Norway’s rainiest city than cooking in my kitchen? At least when I’m not out exploring the fjords.
Though actually we’ve had quite a bit of snow in Bergen, not just rain, which has been a delightful surprise. I thought I was saying goodbye to snow when I left Tromsø. I do still miss the northern lights, but they’ve been replaced by big city lights, which is a fun change.
I guess that’s enough news for one day. I hope that you are enjoying the holidays, and if you’re interested in food, I hope that you enjoy Norwegian Cookbook as well! And do let me know if you have any suggestions for it – I only just started, so I’m still sort of figuring it out.
You can follow Norwegian Cookbook on Instagram here and on Facebook here.

So happy to find your cooking blog and recipes for Christmas baking. I also have Scandinavian family heritage, and have wonderful memories of my mom’s Christmas traditions.

A holiday hello from the U.S.East Coast.. Your new blog project interests me because I’ve long wondered about Norwegian cooking and recipes.
I’m looking forward to learning, thanks to you! Oh that krumkake iron and roller look fun to use. And, lucky you, to be in Bergen, such an interesting place and people. I hope to return……
Merry Christmas, Silvia.
A fan, Patricia

Okay I guess that answers my question on your Åland post “Do you still live in Tromsø?” 😉
