Finnmark is the northernmost part of Norway, bordering Finland and Russia. It’s also one of my favorite regions – the landscape here is extreme and it does feel like you’re on the top of the world!
I recently spent a week driving around Finnmark, including stops in Hammerfest, Hamningberg, and Kirkenes.
You can find my full Finnmark itinerary here, which included driving down two of Norway’s famous 18 National Scenic routes.
I also spent two weeks traveling around Finnmark with my dog, including stops in Porsanger, Hammerfest, Sørøya, Vadsø, Vardø, Tana, Karasjok, Kautokeino, and Alta. You can find my full itinerary here.
I wrote more about my time in Hammerfest here, including the amazing Airbnb I stayed at – which is still one of my favorite Airbnbs in Norway.
And I wrote about my experience at the magnificent Kirkenes Snow Hotel here, which was definitely a highlight of the trip.
I also really love Alta, which is a hub for arctic adventure activities in all seasons. You can read my guide to Alta in the summer here and read about my stay at my favorite northern lights accommodation in Alta here.
And read about one of my favorite northern light spots in all of Norway, the Arctic Dome in Kokelv here.
